What Setria glutathione do for skin?

A study of Setria glutathione suggests that oral ingestion of Setria may reduce melanin production and lighten the dark skin of individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types IV and V. At a dosage of 250 mg per day, oral glutathione such as Setria is safe and well tolerated, and there is no evidence of serious adverse events. Given the regulatory properties of oral glutathione on melanogenesis and pigment production in the skin, this safe, reduced dosage may also help lower the melanin index in individuals with darker skin tones. The study also reports that Setria may contribute to wrinkle reduction in middle-aged women by improving water retention in sun-exposed skin areas, supporting hydration and potentially improving the skin barrier.

“It has been previously reported that oral GSH administration of 500 mg/day can help lighten skin color, and the main objective of this study was to determine whether setria glutathione maintains its skin-lightening effect when administered at a dose of 250 mg/day,” said Yuki Nakamura, researcher at Kyowa Healthcare Product Development Center.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled healthy female volunteers aged 20 to 50 years who received oral Setria glutathione (250 mg/day) or placebo for 12 weeks. Skin characteristics, including melanin index, were measured at each visit, at baseline and during 12 weeks. Blood samples were collected for safety monitoring. No serious adverse effects occurred throughout the study.
